SXU’s Pipolo throws first pitch at White Sox game

SXU sponsors post-game fireworks

Chicago (July 10, 2010) Saint Xavier University junior catcher Jim Pipolo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandurg) joined new SXU President Christine M. Wiseman, J.D., on the mound at U.S. Cellular Field to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Chicago White Sox Game on Friday, July 9. White Sox pitcher John Danks caught Pipolo’s pitch.
Saint Xavier sponsored “Fireworks Night” following the game and hosted an alumni gathering on the patio deck that evening at the ballpark. For Pipolo, being selected to throw the first pitch was a dream come true.

“This is an extra special honor for me personally, because I get to represent my school and I’m a huge Sox fan,” said Pipolo. “I have followed Major League Baseball my whole life, so it is really exciting to know that I will get the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at U.S. Cellular Field.”

Pipolo recently completed another successful season with the Cougar baseball team helping lead the team to a 37-16-1 record and a second place finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). He finished third on the team in batting with a .378 average (51-for-135) and posted 10 doubles, eight home runs and 54 RBI. Pipolo was also a first team selection on the 2010 All-CCAC Baseball Team.
