Chicago (Aug. 15, 2011)
Saint Xavier University alumni, benefactors and friends gathered for a day at the links at SXU’s 15th Annual Golf Classic at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park. The event drew more than 175 participants and raised more than $120,000 with all proceeds going to student scholarships. Former Chicago Bears player and SXU Golf Classic Committee member Bruce Herron joined in the fun at the Aug. 2 event.

The event featured two successful live auctions: A foursome at The Bear Golf Course in Traverse City that included same-day travel in a private plane, and President Christine Wiseman to host and cook “Dinner with the President” in her home for four people. Also, a series of raffle prizes were drawn, including the following: Apple iPad2, a flat screen TV, and a Trek mountain bike as well as a variety of golf items and prize packages.

Major sponsors included Henry Bros. Co., AT & T, Bear Cartage & Intermodal, Inc., DLA Piper, Dr. Gerald F. & Mrs. Mary Clare ’65 Loftus, Ozinga Bros. Inc., Mid American Group, and Linear Electric Co. Inc.

"We are delighted that the SXU Golf Classic is so successful in raising funds for student scholarships," said SXU Vice President for University Advancement Steven Murphy. "We are grateful to the many generous sponsors, alumni and friends of the University who made this possible."
