SXU’s 2009-10 Theology South lecture series begins with Hon. Judge Joan H. Lefkow

U.S. District Court judge to speak about mother’s tragic story and poems found posthumously

Chicago (Sept. 24, 2009) The Hon. Judge Joan H. Lefkow will be the first speaker in Saint Xavier University’s 2009 Theology South lecture series from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 in the Butler Reception Room, located in the Warde Academic Center of the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

The lecture is open to the public and costs $6 at the door. Coffee will be served at 9 a.m., and a question and answer session will follow the lecture.

Lefkow is a judge in the U.S. District Court of Chicago. Her lecture, titled “I speak of Simple Things,” focuses on her mother, Donna Humphrey. Humphrey was murdered by a criminal who thought he had not received justice in Lefkow’s court. After her mother’s death, Lefkow found boxes of poems that reflected her mother’s hopes, dreams and disappointments. Lefkow published her mother’s poetry as a way of remembering her and ensuring her descendants remembered her.
