SXU to host book signing with distinguished author and lawyer Laura Caldwell

Caldwell will discuss her latest mystery novel Claim of Innocence

Chicago (Aug. 31, 2011) Saint Xavier University will host distinguished author and lawyer Laura Caldwell at a book-signing from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 8 at Gilhooley's Grande Saloon, 3901 W. 103rd St. The event is free and open to the public.

Caldwell will discuss how her career as a lawyer turned author turned humanitarian unfolded. She’ll also entertain questions and read excerpts from her new novel Claim of Innocence, a mystery continuing the adventures of attorney Izzy McNeil. In addition, Caldwell will participate in a discussion with SXU students earlier in the day at SXU's Chicago campus, located at 3700 West 103rd St.

Caldwell is a former civil trial attorney and a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She is a published author of several women's lit and mystery/thriller novels, as well as a nonfiction book titled Long Way Home: A Young Man Lost in the System and the Two Women Who Found Him. Long Way Home is the result of Caldwell's pro bono defense work on the criminal case of Jovan Mosley, a young man who was charged with murder and spent nearly six years in a Cook County holding cell awaiting trial after a forced confession. After proving Mosley's innocence, Caldwell founded Life After Innocence, a program at Loyola that assists wrongfully convicted individuals as they reenter society and reclaim their lives.

Claim of Innocence and Long Way Home will be available for purchase during the signing. For more information, please contact the Office of Special Events at (773) 298-3748 or specialevents@sxu.edu.
