Will the world end on Dec. 21, 2012? Find out more at "The Great 2012 Scare: Fact vs. Fantasy"

Does the ancient Mayan calendar really predict the end of the world on Dec. 21, 2012? Learn the truth at "The Great 2012 Scare: Fact vs. Fantasy" from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 14 at Saint Xavier University.

Astrophysicist Kevin Manning, Ph.D., will guide attendees through the facts and fiction of the end-of-the-world scare. The presentation will be held in the Bishop Quarter Room of the Robert and Mary Rita Murphy Stump Library, located in Warde Academic Center at SXU’s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. This event is free and open to the public.

Manning is a retired astrophysicist who worked as a NASA consultant on the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, NASA's flagship X-ray telescope launched in 1999, and with the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. He received the Frank G. Brooks Award for Excellence in Science Research.
