Learn about life in Chicago Public Schools with award-winning author/professor at SXU
Greg Michie, Ph.D., to speak on March 21
Chicago (March 13, 2012) Saint Xavier University will host award-winning author and professor Greg Michie, Ph.D., at 4 p.m. on Wed., March 21 in the Student Lounge, located in the Warde Academic Center at SXU's Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. Michie's lecture, which is free and open to the public, will give a personal and honest look into the life of a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) teacher. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture, which is hosted by SXU's Education Club.
Michie is a professor in the Department of Foundations and Social Policy at Concordia University Chicago and holds a Ph.D. in curriculum design from University of Illinois at Chicago. He previously worked as a CPS teacher in the Back of the Yards neighborhood for nine years. Michie has published numerous essays and articles about his work with children, and is the author of "Holler If You Hear Me: The Education of a Teacher and his Students" and "See You When We Get There: Teaching for Change in Urban Schools." His next book, "We Don't Need Another Hero: Struggle, Hope, and Possibility in the Age of High-Stakes Schooling," will be published later this year. Michie received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Golden Apple Foundation in 1996.
