World War II Marine Corps Veteran to discuss combat experience as SXU’s Winter 2010 Forum

Lecture is 11:30 a.m. on Thurs., Feb. 18

Chicago (Feb. 2, 2010) Marine Corps veteran Joseph Pratl will share his combat experiences during World War II’s Asiatic Pacific Theater at the Winter 2010 John T. Farrell Sr. lecture from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 18 at Saint Xavier University.

Pratl’s lecture, “My Personal Experience in World War II,” is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Butler Reception Room in the Warde Academic Center at the University’s Chicago Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Pratl served as a corporal from 1941 to 1945. He experienced combat on Guadalcanal, the United States’ first major land encounter with the Japanese, as well as on Guam and other Pacific Islands. He also operated 155 mm artillery in the 9th and 10th Defense Battalions.

The event is sponsored by the John T. Farrell Sr. Forum of the Renaissance Academy. The Renaissance Academy is a collegial association of retired and semi-retired men and women who share learning experiences and intellectual growth in a friendly and relaxed academic setting.
