Catholic theologian to speak at SXU

"A world of wizardry or spiritual wisdom?"

Chicago (Nov. 4, 2010) Theologian, liturgist, and musician Rev. Edward Foley will discuss the roles of Catholic higher education as part of Saint Xavier University’s Catholic Colloquium lecture series.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 10 in the Warde Academic Center’s Butler Reception Room at the University's Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Foley’s lecture, “Can a University Be a Sacrament? Catholic Magic or Catholic Mysticism?” will examine whether the divine realities conveyed by earthly realities invoke a world of wizardry or one of spiritual wisdom.
Foley is a professor of liturgy and music at Catholic Theological Union. He is the Duns Scotus chair in Franciscan Spirituality at CTU. He has a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Notre Dame and a masters degree in divinity, music, and liturgical research.

The Catholic Colloquium series is sponsored by the Office for University Mission and Heritage. It honors the responsibilities of a Catholic university to its many constituents and illustrates how Catholic universities are resources for examining contemporary civic and social questions.
