Chicago (March 16, 2012) Author and Saint Xavier University alumna Yzabelle Jiménez Martínez '00 will give a reading from her recent book "Oath of God," the story of a woman's faith journey in Chicago and Mexico, on Fri., March 23 at SXU.

Both events are free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be offered.

"Oath of God" (Tate Publishing & Enterprises, 2011) tells the story of Leizel, who hears a premonition from God upon returning from a study abroad program in Mexico. Leizel has spent her life living in Chicago, where she attends school and lives her daily life, and in Mexico, her home during summer vacation where she feels her soul remains. This split life mirrors her own battle between giving in to her temptations and giving in to living a God-led life. Traveling between the two, Leizel forms new relationships, and is tested, tried, and taught how to live on faith alone.

Jiménez Martínez received her B.A. in literature and Spanish from SXU in 2000. While an undergraduate, she was an editor for SXU's student newspaper The Xavierite, a writing tutor, a transitions peer mentor, a contributor to OPUS literary magazine and a member and officer of UNIDOS. She also spent a semester abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico. During the past nine years, Jiménez Martínez was a high school English teacher for the Los Angeles Archdiocese in California. She is now back in Chicago, pursuing a master’s degree at Loyola University.
