Chicago (March 30, 2011) Saint Xavier University raised more than $375,000 for student scholarships at its 26th Annual President’s Scholarship Ball on Sat., March 26. More than 500 guests attended the delightful evening of dinner and dancing at the Hilton Chicago.
The Ball also celebrated the 2011 Shield of Saint Xavier recipients, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gerald F. Loftus and his wife Mary Clare Loftus, a 1965 alumna of the School of Nursing. Dr. and Mrs. Loftus have been among SXU’s most generous lifetime donors and supporters, whose gifts included the McDonough Chapel cross, the Loftus Meeting Room in Rubloff Hall and an endowed Nursing Scholarship.
“We thank the Ball’s co-chairs Kevin and Jane ’65 Forde and Trustee Michael Forde for their tremendous efforts in making this evening such a success,” President Christine M. Wiseman, J.D. said. “Saint Xavier student Elisabeth Jarzen was equally remarkable. She movingly spoke to the audience about the value of her Saint Xavier education and the scholarship that made it possible. Our event sponsors and benefit committee also played an important role in what turned out to be a record-setting event.”
