SXU welcomes back students with Winter Week 2010

Week of activities includes first ever Cougar men’s volleyball game on Jan. 13

Chicago (Jan. 6, 2010) With the Midwest bracing for the next blast of winter weather, Saint Xavier University is preparing a warm welcome back for students for the Spring Semester, which officially begins Monday, Jan. 11. “Winter Week 2010” kicks off Jan. 9 and features a variety of quirky, fun activities designed to chase away the winter blues. Ranging from improv to a capella, live music to massage, Hawaiian luau to airbrushed tattoos, here is the complete schedule of events:

Sat., Jan. 9
• Free concert by award-winning singer/songwriter Jason LeVasseur, 7:30 p.m., Butler Reception Room.

Sun., Jan. 10
• “Sunday at the Park,” a trip to Millennium Park and downtown Chicago for ice skating and shopping. The shuttle leaves at 1:30 p.m. from the Butler Reception Room. Space is limited. Sign-up required.
• Sunday Student Mass followed by a social, 8 p.m., McDonough Chapel.

Mon., Jan. 11
• “Learn your future” – Stop by the entertaining Tarot Card Reader, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., SXU Diner.
• “Bowling at Brunswick,” including free bowling and shoe rental. The shuttle leaves at 10 p.m. from Regina Hall.

Tues., Jan 12
• Post-holiday stress? Get a free chair massage, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., SXU Diner.
• Be Spontaneous! Go to the improv show by Chicago’s own Mission IMPROVable, 7:30 p.m., McGuire Hall.

Wed., Jan. 13
• See all that SXU has to offer at the Student Activities Fair, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Student Lounge.
• First ever men’s volleyball game against D’Youville College, 7 p.m., Shannon Center. All Saint Xavier student fans will be entered to win a $75 gift certificate to the campus bookstore. Volleyball is Saint Xavier’s 13th varsity sport.
• A screening of Elf, starring Will Ferrell at 8:30 p.m., Student Lounge.

Thurs., Jan. 14
• Airbrush tattoos, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., SXU Diner.
• “A Cappella Night,” featuring “The Other Guys” from University of Illinois, “Ransom Notes” from University of Chicago and other area groups at 7:30 p.m. in McGuire Hall.

Fri., Jan. 15
• More free chair massages, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., SXU Diner.
• Aloha! A Cougar Luau featuring free food, dancing and fun, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Andrew Conference Center. It is the perfect warm way to wrap up Winter Week 2010 – Mahalo!
