SXU Music Department hosting flute choir, chorale concerts
April 16 and 18 at Chicago campus
Chicago (April 9, 2010) Saint Xavier University’s Music Department will host two concerts this month at its Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.
The University Flute Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16 in the McDonough Chapel. They will perform familiar classics, including Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and a new jazz work, Lady Carol for Flute Choir and String Bass by Alfred Hager. Also included will be an exciting new work by Phyllis Avidan Louke, titled Temple of Heaven, and Ralph Manuel’s Alleluia, as arranged by Victoria Jicha.
The University Chorale will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 in the Rehearsal/Performance space in the Warde Academic Center. They will perform in German the Neue Liebeslieder Waltzes, Op. 65 with Monica Kropidlowski and James Casillas playing the piano four-hand accompaniment, and the Zigeunerlieder by Johannes Brahms. Soloists for the Liebeslieder include students, music department alumni and community members.
Both events are open to the public. Admission is free for SXU students, faculty and staff with valid University ID. General admission is $6, and $5 for seniors and visiting students.
