Oct. 22 marks inauguration celebration for SXU's 19th president Christine M. Wiseman, J.D.

Attending dignitaries include State Sen. Edward Maloney, The Hon. John P. Daley, Ald. Virginia Rugai, The Rev. John R. Gorman and delegates from 32 colleges and universities nationwide

Chicago (Oct. 18, 2010) Saint Xavier University will celebrate the inauguration of Christine M. Wiseman, J.D., as the University's 19th president with a day of special events on Fri., Oct. 22 at its Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

A special Inauguration Liturgy will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in McDonough Chapel, at which the Presidential Medallion will be blessed in preparation for its presentation to President Wiseman.

More than 300 SXU faculty and staff members wearing formal academic regalia will process at 11:30 a.m., starting from the Warde Academic Center down 103rd Street and ending at the Shannon Center.

President Wiseman's Installation Ceremony will begin at noon. Board of Trustees Chairman John T. Costello will perform the Investiture ceremony and Wiseman will deliver her inaugural address. Dignitaries scheduled to attend the ceremony include State Sen. Edward D. Maloney (D-18), Cook County Board of Commissioners member The Hon. John P. Daley, Chicago Ald. Virginia Rugai (19th), Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus the Most Rev. John R. Gorman, Conference for Mercy Higher Education Board of Directors Chairwoman Barbara Person, J.D., and Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community Representative Sr. Betty Smith, R.S.M. Delegates from more than 30 colleges and universities across the nation also are scheduled to attend.

The day will conclude with a picnic reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in O'Malley Quad and the SXU Diner Atrium.
