SXU volunteers pack more than 400 lunches for local shelters

Service Through Action Team has donated more than 1,800 lunches since Dec., 2009

Chicago (Oct. 20, 2010) More than 55 students, alumni, staff and faculty members came together to pack more than 400 brown bag lunches for needy people at local homeless shelters earlier this week.

Members of SXU's Service Through Action Team (S.T.A.T.) prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, juice boxes, chips and candy for people at Southwest Chicago PADS, South Suburban PADS, Maple Morgan Park Food Pantry, Pro Labore Dei, P.R.I.D.E. Alternative School in Oak Lawn and Alicia's House. Other volunteers created more than 80 decorative Halloween masks that will be donated to Hope Children's Hospital this week.

S.T.A.T. has donated more than 1,800 lunches since its inception in December, 2009. S.T.A.T.'s will collect non-perishable food items from Nov. 1 to Dec. 1 for its next food drive, Holiday Harvest, during the first week of December.
