"Braden Scale" creator Barbara J. Braden to lecture at SXU

Lecture part of ongoing School of Nursing 75th Anniversary Celebration

Chicago (Oct. 7, 2010) Barbara J. Braden, Ph.D, R.N., F.A.A.N., creator of the world-renowned Braden Scale, will give two guest lectures at Saint Xavier University as part of SXU's School of Nursing's ongoing 75th Anniversary Celebration on Fri., Oct. 15 at the University's Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Braden will deliver a lecture, "Using Research to Build Evidence and Evidence to Build Practice: The Braden Scale Example," from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Warde Academic Center's Butler Reception Room. She also will give a presentation for faculty and medical professionals, "Navigating the Publication Process," from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Warde Academic Center's Fourth Floor Board Room.

The event also includes a continental breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Butler Reception Room.

Braden is Dean of the University College at Creighton University and a member of Saint Xavier's Board of Trustees. She is a leading figure in the field of evidence-based practice in nursing and developed the Braden Scale, which predicts a patient's potential for pressure ulcers during long-term care based on nutrition levels, movement and other factors. It is used in hospitals across the world and has been translated into 15 languages.
