Chicago (Nov. 5, 2008) More than 70 Saint Xavier University students gathered to watch coverage of what became a truly historic election night on Nov. 4 at Figaro’s in Regina Hall on SXU’s Chicago Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.
SXU’s Student Government Association hosted an Election Party for students to enjoy donkey- and elephant-shaped cookies and free election hats and buttons as they watched Democrat Barack Obama defeat Republican John McCain to become the first African-American U.S. president elect.
SGA vice president Mark Piper said McCain and Obama supporters both attended the event and treated each other with respect and civility.“Not only was it a historic night, but it was great to see such involvement from students,” Piper said. “Everyone was glued to the TVs.”
