Saint Xavier University celebrates Mission Day

Ceremony observes Mercy Mission, honors service

Chicago (March 19, 2009) Students, faculty and staff attended Saint Xavier University’s Mission Day ceremonies on Wednesday, March 18 in the Warde Academic Center 4th Floor Board Room, where President Judith A. Dwyer, Ph.D., presented the University’s three annual service awards.

Winners of this year’s service awards are: Jennifer Betcher, ’09, of Homer Glen, who received the Mother Mary Paulita Morris, R.S.M. Student Service Award; Assistant to the Dean of the School of Education Mary Kean Coffey, ’90, who received the Sister Isidore Perrigo, R.S.M. Staff Service Award; and Margaret Bogacz, D.A., ’64, who received the Saint Xavier University Faculty Service Award.

Mission Day, a new University-wide observance, calls attention to Saint Xavier’s educational mission and provides an occasion for all members of the University community to renew their commitment to the educational enterprise.

Saint Xavier University, a Catholic institution inspired by the heritage of the Sisters of Mercy, educates men and women to search for truth, to think critically, to communicate effectively, and to serve wisely and compassionately in support of human dignity and the common good.

Mission Day is coordinated by the Office for University Mission and Heritage to complement Saint Xavier’s other all-University observances – Mercy Day and Founders’ Day – all of which focus on the University’s educational mission, Catholic identity and Mercy heritage.
