SXU continues 2009-10 film series with My Life as a Dog

Third feature in “Children on Screen: Film and Childhood” series on Nov. 19

Chicago (Nov. 5, 2009) Saint Xavier University continues its 2009-10 film series “Children on Screen: Film and Childhood” with a screening of My Life as a Dog at 7 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 19 in the Warde Academic Center’s McGuire Hall at the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Admission is free and open to the public.

A 1985 Swedish film directed by Lasse Hallström, My Life as a Dog tells the story of a working-class twelve-year-old named Ingemar who goes to live with his uncle in a country village after his mother falls ill. There, Ingemar finds refuge from his misfortunes as he embarks upon an unexpected adventure with the help of the town’s eccentric characters. This beautiful film about a young boy trying to figure out life while coping with loss, family and love won multiple awards at film festivals around the world.

This film is third in a series of six movies exploring themes of childhood and film. The next movie is the 2000 Iranian film Color of Paradise on Jan. 21.
