SXU music department events: November

Chicago (Nov. 11, 2009) Saint Xavier University’s music department will host the following events this month. All events are open to the public and will be held on the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

SXU Concert Band and University Flute Choir performs Concertino and other pieces
7:30 p.m., Fri., Nov. 20
McGuire Hall

The University Concert Band will perform Darius Milhaud’s Suite Francais, John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever and Frank Ticheli’s Wild Nights, with senior Sara Turk performing the rhapsodic, romantic work for solo flute Concertino by Cecile Chaminade.
General admission is $6, and free for all SXU students with valid student I.D.

Men’s Ensemble, Women’s Ensemble, University Choral performs A Night at the Movies
7:30 p.m., Sun., Nov. 22
Rehearsal Performance Space, Warde Academic Center

The concert will feature classical and familiar music selections from famous films, including the Harry Potter series, Meet Me in St. Louis, Hunt for Red October, Excalibur, Glory, Home Alone and Empire of the Sun.

Performances include O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Lacrymosa from Mozart’s Requiem, The Ballad of Sweeney Todd from Sweeney Todd, White Christmas, Silver Bells and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Carolyn Brady Rile, M.M. will serve as Conductor/Director, Thomas McNichols as Assistant Director and Monica Kropidlowski, M.M. as the accompanist.
