Saint Xavier wins two ICPA awards


Chicago (April 14, 2009) The Xavierite, Saint Xavier University’s student newspaper, received two awards at the 2009 Illinois College Press Association Awards Banquet in Chicago.

The Xavierite won 1st place for Best Editorial in the Non-Dailies over 4,000 category. The editorial was written by the staff and pertained to security measures in the University’s residence halls.

The newspaper also received an Honorable Mention for In-Depth Reporting in the Non-Dailies over 4,000 category. The article, written by Kendall Steinle and Chris Lonergan, pertained to Saint Xavier’s campus closing in 2008 because of threats made against the University.

“The entire staff should be very proud of their accomplishments,” said Peter Kreten, assistant director of campus life: student media. “The Xavierite’s goal is to continue to grow and develop as the eyes and ears of Saint Xavier University.”
